New Lincoln High School Update
New Lincoln High School is underway for an opening date of August 2012.
The New Lincoln High School is on a fast track to be ready for 550 eight through 12th graders in August 2012. The new school will provide spaces (115,538 sq. ft.) for additional classrooms, larger rooms for Project Based Learning (NEW TECH), state of the art Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) as well as traditional high school classes, vocational classrooms, and a new gymnasium, athletic complex (football field, track, baseball and softball fields).
The District has also applied for and is anticipating funding for a safe room at the new High School. It is truly an exciting time and great opportunity to be a student, teacher/staff member, or community member at Lincoln Consolidated Public Schools.
Lincoln Board/Administration, Staff, Students, Parents, and Community Members are all looking forward to finalizing the new Lincoln High School and Athletic Complex at the site just on the east side of the city . We have so many to thank for the hard work and vision to make this a reality but we are all excited and proud as we watch the two story building going up and encompassing the 40 acre site.
The expected costs for the building are around $14.6 million and the Athletic Complex to be $1.4 million to be paid with a combination of bond proceeds, state partnership funding, and from the building fund for the total $16 million.
We have been assured by Nabholz Inc. that we are still on schedule to open in August of 2012. We have issued a contract to Benchmark Construction to finish the football field, track, bleachers and press box, install lights on the football field, and concrete pads/walkways, and other areas.
We are still working on the design for the concessions/restrooms for the football field and ticket booth. Also we are moving forward on the baseball/softball fields, fencing, bleachers, concrete pads, and concession/restrooms with a press box for baseball/softball. We have received bids for baseball/softball lighting and plan for them to be installed in the future as soon as possible.
Although we have encountered some problems, as normal with construction, we are making adjustments and moving forward. We did hit solid rock in several areas and have been required to make some design and budget changes but not anything we are not prepared to handle.
We are still on a course for the scheduled opening date of classes to begin August of 2012 at the new site. Please stay tuned and we will have more information as we proceed.
